Earlier this week I highlighted a fun little tool called the GoPro Camera. Tho

ugh its fully HD and has surprising image quality, its just a small box, and is meant to be worn for capturing the POV perspective in sports events. Really, there’s no end to the many fun applications for a tool like this. We’ve been using it on set of The Christmas Experience to capture some unique perspectives of our work and our set.

Take a look:

Have you seen any videos lately that use unconventional tools or offer a unique visual perspective? Or, can you think of any topics you’d like

to see me address in one of these Director’s Journal posts? Please share your thoughts in the comments below!

There is perhaps no more humbling activity in all of human experience than raising children. The stakes are high, time is limited, and there are no do-overs. So imagine the pressure that might have been faced by Mary and Joseph, as they anticipated the arrival of the most precious child in history.

We know they possessed great faith, but did that mean they weren’t afraid? Yes, the child’s coming was announced by an angel, but the bible says nothing about Gabriel dropping off an instruction book entitled What to Expect When You’re Expecting the Son of God.

From the production trailer on the set of The Christmas Experience, here’s our take on what Mary & Joseph might have been feeling as the time for Christ’s arrival drew near. Please note, this is just a rough cut – no color, no audio work, no time spent combing through the footage for the perfect reaction shots. But with that disclaimer, enjoy!

So, what would it have been like to be tasked with raising the Messiah? How would you have felt? And what do you think the child Jesus would have been like? A rough-and-tumble boy playing in the dirt with the neighborhood kids? A quiet little child who sat alone studying the Torah all day? Fascinating to wonder… so leave your thoughts below!

Last week, we had all hands on deck as

we worked feverishly to finish the final touches on the little village of Nazareth, where much of The Christmas Experience takes place. The flats had been built, the set installed, but the detail work wasn’t where it needed to be. As I stood looking around the set, it was yet another confirmation of something I’ve come to learn over the years as an artist: In any project, 90% of the impact comes from the last 10% of work. Detail, finesse, and finishing touches aren’t just the icing on the cake – they ARE the cake.

Dispite its work-in-progress status, I took a

few minutes to give you a tour of the set. Over the next few weeks, you’ll get to see the plenty of the set in its fully dressed and decorated state…so here’s the BEFORE picture that you can use for later comparison. Enjoy!
